Inside the Facility

At our construction and demolition recycling facility, we handle the entire recycling process. The two-story facility was designed specifically to accept commingled loads and employ automated technology in conjunction with manual sorting to achieve the highest recovery rate possible.

With the largest commingled sort lines in the region, the facility can process an average of 1,500 tons of debris daily. The heart of the facility is the Vecoplan industrial shredder that turns incoming C&D waste into smaller manageable pieces. The main line moves about 100 tons of debris each hour to the initial sorting lines where cardboard and rejects are removed by hand and deposited into individual chutes for storage.

Commingled recyclables are sorted into wood, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, gypsum, concrete and asphalt, cement fiberboard, asphalt roofing, cardboard and various types of plastic.

About 50 percent of the commingled stream is comprised of wood. The plant transforms the wood waste into secondary wood fiber products and biomass fuels. The processed wood products are used as raw materials in the production of pulp and paper.

Heavy fractions are treated by a water bath that separates close to 98 percent of wood—heavy objects sink to the bottom and the light pieces float to the surface. The water treatment unit filters waste water, recycles it and returns it to the flotation system. After the water treatment, the wood recovered can help save money and reduces environmental impact

The facility also processes land-clearing wood wastes into mulch and fuel products.

Conventional composite roofing shingles are separated and recycled for hot-mix asphalt and dust-erosion control.

Allied’s facility is permitted to operate 24 hours a day providing our customers the most convenient and frequent service.
